It’s been a funny past two days. Jess has totally entered the ‘oh-my-God-im-so-cleansed-and-happy’ phase of the detox (hear her: eggplants are sexy! Dehydrating is fun!), but probably as my own body is a toxic temple, I’m taking a little more time to heal. My hips and legs were excruciating yesterday and sleep was hard. I’ve read articles that say a full on body brushing (yowwch!) followed by hot-then cold-then hot showers are a good technique for targeting the lymphatic system- it does work, but the reduce symptoms don’t last too long. The tendency is to lay in a hot bath all day. We’ll that’s both impractical AND uneconomical (and abnormal).
However… We have experienced some good food over the past two days which distracted me from the pain somewhat…!
We had a tasty breakfast yesterday- Orange, Apple & Coconut granola
- 1 grated apple
- zest of 1 orange
- 1 tbs orange juice
- cup shredded raw coconut
- 1/3 cup almonds
- 2 dates
- 1 tsp ground chia
- tbs dried cranberries
For lunch we played around with the ‘allowed’ alkaline foods and made a Mango & Beetroot salad with Avocado.
For the salad:
- 1 cup diced cucumber
- 1 cup diced beetroot
- 1/2 mango, diced
- 2 small tomatoes, diced
- 1 spring onion, finely chopped
- handful chopped parsley
- tsb hulled hemp seeds (very yum!)
For the avocado topping:
- 1 Mashed avocado
- 1 small tomato
- salt and pepper to taste
We went to the market this morning and the organic figs, strawberries and mango I bought didnt last long in the fruit bowl ‘pon our return! I put some cracked pepper on the strawberries too (so that’s not dirt you see!).
Feeling a lot better today. After the main part of the detox I’m feeling much less hungry- not thinking about any ‘naughty’ foods, feeling clearer headed and far more spritely than yesterday (I can walk!). Still thinking about coffee, but not in dire need for one.
We are off to the Summer of Soul music festival tomorrow, so stocking up on raw-vegan travel friendly treats and drinks that look alcoholic to the untrained eye (and feel like bottles of fun in our hands). Lo and behold! We found bottles of Kombucha by Mojo in a shop today, which we tried at the World Vegan Day Festival- It’s a yeasty bacterially based tea (sounds yuk) but it’s SO good!Not alcoholic, but fermented none-the-less
Jess is making raw eggplant bacon to take with us too (YES! RAW VEGAN BACON!)… I’ll let you know how it fares…
